Prolegomenon and Other Random Thoughts
This is a revisit of a cigar I had first and last smoked at the end of 2024. I only had the two Robustos but loved this one enough to buy more of the Toro. So over time, the Toro will get more journal entries, but I wanted to close out the Robusto with a proper review.

The Review
This review for the San Cristobal Revelation (Prophet) - Robusto (Box Press) (5.25 x 54) is based on the journal entry dated 2026-01-26
Appearance & Construction (0-3): Good (3)
The Sumatra-seed Ecuadorian wrapper is a very nice milk chocolate medium brown that has a soft texture, light sheen, and good mottling. In spite of the box press, it’s a little lumpy, particularly from the binder layer, which is exacerbated by the numerous medium-thickness veins. But the seams are tight and the triple cap is clean. The San Cristobal bands are really nicely done and give this mid-priced cigar a more high-end look.
Draw (0-3) & Burn (0-4): Average (2) / Good (3)
With the dual bands, I felt inclined to take off the secondary one that says “Revelation” before lighting up because it’s past the midway point. The draw is loose really no resistance, but the burn starts well. There’s a little bit of wave and unevenness, but it’s well controlled. The ash is a very light gray with dark contrasting striations. It’s a little flaky, but seems solid. The ash holds until almost the midway point of the smoke. Even after ashing the burn line settles in nicely with just the slightest bit of wave.
Flavor Profile (0-5): Excellent (5)
Immediate hits of strong pepper and cinnamon zinging the lips on light-up. That “Pepin spice” can always find its way into other brands still made by My Father. Strong cedar, peanuts, light baking cocoa, earth, and citrus sweet round out the initial flavors. The spice levels calm by the end of the first inch, just leaving a fairly smooth and refined smoke that has a nice, creamy finish to it. If it wasn’t so woody, it would definitely have more of a Mexican hot chocolate vibe to it.
Citrus sweetness is pulling back in the second third, leaving baking spice, cedar, earth, baking cocoa, and strong nuttiness with that creamy finish. Nuttiness is more almond and the cedar notes are more charred. There’s a very faint hint of coffee and leather. While not the most complex, it’s refined and well balanced, and actually making me crave an espresso or hot chocolate for pairing. At this point, it’s like a Three Musketeers bar with a creamy nougat-like malt flavor enhanced with nuts and toasted cedar. The black pepper spice picks back up in the final third, while the rest of the profile is largely unchanged.
What I find really interesting about the profile is that based on just the description of the flavors themselves, it would not come across as appealing to me. I would not be surprised if at the very least it sounded boring to you. But this is a great and very enjoyable blend. And it’s a fucking trope: “Why Miss Jones, you’re beautiful!” This is the nerdy girl in glasses and bad outfits becoming beautiful once you get to know her. Bottom line is don’t judge this one just on what you think the flavor profile might be like based on description, it’s one you need to experience.
Overall Experience (0-5): Excellent (5)
With its medium-full intensity and overall medium strength, this is a great early day cigar that I would pair with a coffee or other morning beverage. If there’s really any one drawback to it, it’s that it is a bit more traditional in profile, but it’s certainly not boring. This cigar does a great job of blending wood, nuts, and light cocoa notes with spice and cream in a nicely balanced and refined package. Given its relatively affordable price and the My Father quality, it’s a strong addition to the San Cristobal line.
