Prolegomenon and Other Random Thoughts

Kentucky Fire Cured Sweets. I’ll save the exposition since the basics are the same with fire curing. 🤓 If you want the full back story, check the review of the non-sweet KFC.

The Review

This LEGACY review for the Drew Estate Kentucky Fire Cured Sweets (Fat Molly) - Robusto (5 x 56) is based on the journal entry dated 2024-10-22.

Note: My original review format only had a single overall score of 1 to 5 with the “Buy it Again?” value assessment.  This mean’s there’s no sectioned scoring for different factors and I didn’t capture data for my flavor wheel, which may be blank.  If I have journaled the cigar again since I began capturing flavor wheel data, that data will be present.  If the cigar is still available to me, I will eventually replace the legacy review with one in the current format.

The main differences are the entire wrapper is San Andrés and you get a Connecticut Broadleaf binder, with the addition of the artificially sweetened tip.

The cold smell is just as strong with the infused campfire smell from the fire curing. The big difference is that when lit, the added sugary sweet tip helps to cut that smokey flavor to a more reasonable level. You still get the mild chocolate and spice. I did find this to be a more palatable blend for my tastes, but both leave a very slight bitter aftertaste. I think it’s just the fire curing not jiving with me.

Draw was solid, but the burn was a little more uneven than the regular. It didn’t require any touchups or relights, but that fragile ash is still an issue. Less than an inch in, it fell off twice before I could ash. So ash frequently! Like the regular, you will carry that smoke-infused smell with you.

I prefer the Sweets of the two versions. I didn’t dislike either to where they’re going into the donate pile, but I’ll definitely be quick to share these with friends to help get through my stock and doubt I’ll buy them again. With all the DE infused cigars, it’s definitely a love/hate response. Some folks absolutely love the KFC, but I guess I’m a Popeyes man. 😅
